Women MPs from the Trinamul Congress on held a protest in Parliament premises against Union Minister Giriraj Singh’s 'misogynistic' remarks targeting TMC leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. "We heard the remarks yesterday, and they are absolutely shameful, misogynistic, patriarchal. The Union minister is commenting on the only woman chief minister in India," TMC Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra said.

FBI Director Christopher Wray will visit India next week against the backdrop of Washington's allegations about an Indian link to a foiled plot to kill a Sikh separatist on American soil. "This was the Number 1 country she (US Secretary of Treasury Janet Yellen) went to outside of the United States -- four times this year. The Secretary of State (Antony Blinken) just came here for the third time. Secretary of Defense (Lloyd Austin) for the second time. The FBI director is here next week," US ambassador to India Eric Garcetti said.

The ethics panel inquiry report on Trinamul Congress parliamentarian Mahua Moitra would be tabled in the Lok Sabha on December 8, sources said. While Opposition members have demanded a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the report before any decision was taken on the matter, leader of the Trinamul parliamentary party Sudip Bandyopadhyay said that the party has urged Speaker Om Birla to allow Moitra to publicly defend herself on the floor of the house.

On December 5, Cyclone 'Michaung' hit the coast of Andhra Pradesh with destructive winds and heavy rains, flattening thousands of acres of standing crops, inflicting huge losses on farmers in the state. Parts of Chennai and its suburbs in adjoining districts remained water-logged, days after Cyclone Michaung brought torrential downpour, paralysing life in the metropolis and its surrounding areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to release in advance the second instalment of the Centre's contribution to the SDRF of Rs 493.60 to Andhra Pradesh and Rs 450 crore to Tamil Nadu in view of the floods caused by cyclone Michaung, Union Minister Amit Shah said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the Union Home Ministry to release Rs 450 crore, the second instalment to Tamil Nadu for cyclone relief, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said.

Meta Platforms will start fully encrypting messages on Facebook and Instagram by default, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Direct messages on Instagram also will shift to such encryption by default somewhat later, likely in the New Year, the report said.

Britain’s Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick has resigned from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Cabinet over 'strong disagreements' with the government’s Rwanda policy of deporting illegal migrants. Sunak responded to his resignation by saying he was 'disappointed' but that his reasoning to quit the post was 'based on a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation'.

Several moviegoers in three different Greater Toronto Area regions in Canada were evacuated and some were treated for exposure to an unknown substance sprayed by masked men in theatres playing Hindi movies earlier this week, according to police and media reports. Numerous movie-goers started coughing after two men in masks and hoods sprayed an 'unknown, aerosol-based, irritating substance into the air' in a theatre, the police said.
