On October 13, Army assault dog 'Zoom' succumbed to his injuries in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. A ferocious, committed canine, he was trained to locate and bring down terrorists. He has been a loyal companion of the army and has been an active part of several operations in South Kashmir. Stubby, one of the most famous war dogs, served in World World I with the 102nd Infantry. He was the only dog who was given the rank of a sergeant. He saved his troops from gas attacks and successfully caught a German spy.
