Actress Wamiqa Gabbi had to undergo rigorous dance training for the Vishal Bharadwaj-directed short film Fursat, which is garnering positive reviews for its choreography and cinematography.

“Dance is a form of language that Vishal Sir used in this movie. We have mostly used contemporary dance steps and the brief I got was, irrespective of where you stand or what your position is, everyone should look like each other's mirror image. Which meant our timings had to be bang on,” said Wamiqa, a trained Kathak dancer.

“I trained in contemporary dance for over two weeks and used all my free time in between my shoots for practice. I am just glad all the hard work paid off. I was shooting for another project and I would fly to Mumbai on my day offs to rehearse with my teacher,” she added.

The actress was shooting in Hyderabad and had to attend her practice sessions with Shiamak Davar’s team in Mumbai.

Fursat, available on YouTube, follows a young man, Nishant (Ishaan Khatter), who can see the future because of an ancient relic called Doordarshak. The 30-minute-long film is complete with musical scores and a romantic interest.

During the launch of the short film, Bhardwaj said, “We also wanted to have it in a musical format, something like we have seen in films like Chicago. Where once the song comes, the cast moves to a stage to perform. That gives a wider canvas to play with the inner emotions. I have been wanting to do a film like this and was looking forward to it.”

Wamiqa had played Annu Lal in 83, and she will be next seen in Bharadwaj's Khufiya alongside Tabu and Ali Fazal. Ishaan Khatter starred in Phone Bhoot, and will be seen next in an upcoming period war film Pippa along with Mrunal Thakur and Priyanshu Painyuli.
