Vikram Bhatt, who started off directing films like Jaanam and Fareb and later directed Ghulam, is now known for his horror films. And, he prefers working with newcomers for the genre.

Vikram’s latest venture, Ghost starring TV star Sanaya Irani and Shivam Bhaargava in the lead, released recently and Vikram said he stopped working with big stars a long time ago.

“The price of the tickets is for the scare. Any actor who convinces you to bring the fear element is good for your film. It also requires a lot of courage from actors to show fear on screen.... Newcomers don’t carry baggage and bring a certain freshness to the film,” Vikram said

“Every director is making one genre. Abbas-Mustan make thrillers, David Dhawan makes comedy. Aditya Chopra has always made love stories. So why not horror,” Vikram, who has now set up his production house VB Films, asked

“I used to work with Mahesh Bhatt and my day does not start without talking to him. But as you grow older you feel like leaving something of your work behind for your kids. I have always worked for others, I do not have negatives of my own. Bhatt saab advised me to produce my own films and have negatives; you can licence them and get royalty,” he said.

The filmmaker’s daughter, Krishna, has also followed in her father’s footsteps and turned director. “She is nothing like me,” Vikram said. “She is more like my grandfather (Vijay Bhatt), more softer and romantic.”

Now that Ghost is out, Vikram will start working on Hack, which he said, stars Hina Khan and is set for a January 30 release.
