Vidya Balan, who is playing a sleuth in Neeyat, on Wednesday introduced her character Mira Rao from the upcoming whodunnit as not “your regular detective”, sharing behind-the-scenes footage from the shooting floor.

The two-minute-24-second video, filled with unseen moments from the film, saw Vidya unmask her character with small details. “Mira Rao is a detective by profession but she belongs in the world of books and computers, basically knowledge. She's a geek. She's just not your regular detective,” the 44-year-old actress said.

Vidya’s CBI officer is not as flamboyant as other film detectives and is not afraid to show his goofy side to others. “She's very socially awkward; she's not comfortable around people. She’s a bit of an oddball but that’s what I love about her,” Vidya added.

Vidya also talked about why she loved portraying the character of Mira. “What I loved is the fact that I was getting to play a female detective.

We do not have that many female detective films and definitely not in India.” Vidya had previously played the role of a detective in the 2014 Samar Shaikh directorial, Bobby Jasoos. Her role in Neeyat, however, is quite different. “Mira is extremely intelligent, observant, sharp and then she's inscrutable. You just don’t know where she’s coming from, what she’s saying, what she’s doing. So while she's solving the puzzle, you’re also trying to figure her out.”

Neeyat marks Vidya’s comeback to the big screen after a four-year gap and is slated to arrive in cinemas on July 7.

Directed by Anu Menon, the murder mystery also stars Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Dipannita Sharma, Shashank Arora, Shahana Goswami, Neeraj Kabi, and Amrita Puri.
