Red Chillies VFX has shared a four-minute-long breakdown video to pull back the curtain on the magic behind the visual effects of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki, offering a fascinating peek into some of the most iconic moments of the Rajkumar Hirani directorial.
One standout scene, featuring Taapsee Pannu strolling through her childhood village lost in memories, required intensive VFX to achieve the illusion of a single, uninterrupted camera shot. Similarly, the gripping sequence where Vicky Kaushal's character self-immolates post his visa interview failure was enhanced with computer-generated fire.
When Dunki’s characters set out for London, the landscapes they traverse come to life through expertly crafted computer-generated imagery. From perilous train rides to life-threatening boat journeys, the environments were meticulously designed by Red Chillies VFX.
Many scenes that appeared to be shot on location were, in fact, staged within studio environments against blue-screen backdrops. This includes the heart-pounding moment when Shah Rukh Khan escapes from gunfire by walking underwater. CGI seamlessly replaces the need for real water with wet hair effects in this scene. Similarly, the wrinkled feet of the characters after the underwater adventure was also achieved through the wizardry of visual effects.
Dunki, also starring Anil Grover, Vikram Kochhar, Boman Irani and Deven Bhojani, released in theatres on December 21, raking in Rs 458 crore gross worldwide during its theatrical run.
