The Marvels offers a fresh experience to MCU fans with three female superheroes — Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Imam Vellani’s Ms Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau — teaming up for the first time on the big screen, director Nia DaCosta has said in a new promo video of the upcoming movie.

“I’m really excited for audiences to see the kind of a Marvel movie they haven’t seen before,” DaCosta says in the promo video, dropped by Marvel Entertainment on Wednesday.

The one-minute-40-second-long video begins with behind-the-scenes footage of The Marvels with Brie Larson saying how the shooting experience has been “unbelievable”. Besides introducing the three members who team up for an intergalactic mission, DaCosta and Larson point out what sets The Marvels apart from other MCU movies.

“After the first film, we are at an interesting spot. She’s (Captain Marvel) dealing with being on her own and suddenly, she’s thrust into a situation,” Larson said, adding how her character is grappling with “what it means to be a leader” in her new team of superheroes.

“I’m really excited for everyone to see these three women come together on the big screen,” DaCosta says towards the end of the video, with the footage of the three superheroes pitted against an alien force which wants to destroy the earth. The video also gives a glimpse of Zawe Ashton, who plays the role of Dar-Benn in the film.

In another promo video dropped on Tuesday by Marvel Studios, Nick Fury’s voiceover asks Captain Marvel to put together three heroes in order to fight an alien invasion on earth. The clip features new intergalactic travel and action scenes from the highly-anticipated film.

The Marvels is a sequel to the 2019 film Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson as the titular superhero. In the upcoming film, Larson will be joined by Iman Vellani, who played Captain Marvel super-fan Kamala Khan in the Disney+ Hotstar series Ms Marvel, along with Teyonah Parris, who debuted in the Marvel universe with the 2021 miniseries WandaVision.

Helmed by Nia DaCosta, the film is a collaboration with screenwriters Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. In addition to the main trio of actors and Samuel L Jackson, The Marvels also features South Korean actor Park Seo-joon and Velvet Buzzsaw actress Zawe Ashton.

The Marvels is slated to release in theatres on November 10.
