Mark Wahlberg’s ex-assassin-turned-family-man Dan Morgan — a devoted husband and father of three — puts his combat skills on display as he protects his family from a series of attacks by old foes in the trailer of Apple TV’s upcoming original film The Family Plan.

Dropped by the streamer on Monday, the two-minute-32-second-long video begins with montages and Mark’s Dan saying that he needs to get back to his assassin mode for “one last time”. It then cuts to scenes where Dan and his family are living peacefully, driving casually around the neighbourhood and going grocery shopping. His wife (Michelle Monaghan) says in a voiceover that she wishes their lives were “bigger”.

Soon, Dan is attacked by a man during a shopping session with his toddler. Dan combats him while carrying his 10-month-old baby in a chest sling.

Upon realising the threat to his family, Dan immediately takes every family member to an impromptu cross-country road trip to Las Vegas in their minivan. However, he has threats awaiting him and his family on their way to Vegas.

The trailer promises a fun, action-packed adventure as Dan relives his past and becomes determined to save his family. “Look at you playing the family man,” says one of his enemies which prompts Dan to say, “I’m not playing. This is my life.”

When Dan’s wife sees him shoot bad guys with a gun like a pro, she gets shocked before saying, “You’re like James Bond in a minivan,” adding to the film’s comedic relief.

Directed by Simon Cellan Jones and written by David Coggeshall, the film is produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger under the banner of Skydance. Also starring Zoe Colletti, Van Crosby, Saïd Taghmaoui, Maggie Q and Ciarán Hinds, The Family Plan is slated to release on Apple TV on December 15.
