SIIMA 2023: SS Rajamouli bags best director trophy for RRR, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara wins big

The South Indian International Movie Awards 2023 was held in Dubai on Friday

SS Rajamouli’s Telugu epic saga RRR and Rishab Shetty’s Kannada blockbuster Kantara swept the South Indian International Movie Awards 2023 (SIIMA) in Dubai on Friday, bagging several trophies for acting, direction and music.

Hanu Raghavapudi’s Telugu romantic drama Sita Ramam, headlined by Dulquer Salmaan, also bagged several awards including the coveted Best Film award and Best Actress for Mrunal Thakur.

Rajamouli, who won the Best Director (Telugu) award for RRR, gave the awards ceremony a miss. Jr NTR, who won the Best Actor trophy for the film, collected Rajamouli’s trophy on his behalf along with Allu Aravind.

Rishab Shetty turned out to be the star of the night as his film Kantara won the most number of awards. However, the Best Film award (Kannada) went to 777 Charlie.

The winners from Telugu and Kannada films were announced Friday. The second list of winners — from Malayalam and Tamil films — will be announced on Saturday.
