Ajay Devgn and Jyotika struggle to free their daughter Janhvi, played by Janki Bodiwala, from the clutches of R. Madhavan’s evil sorcerer in the trailer of Vikas Bahl’s upcoming supernatural drama film Shaitaan, dropped by the makers on Thursday.

The two-minute-twenty-six-second long video begins with Jyotika’s voice over reporting a break-in to emergency responders. The camera pans to Janki squatting on a cylinder, preparing to set the house on fire, while R. Madhavan’s sorcerer stretches on a couch.

The subsequent clips show Janhvi rushing at her parents with a dagger in her hands. The screen fades black, presenting next the backstory that led to Janhvi’s possession.

Madhavan’s character enters the house disguised as a benign stranger with an apparently harmless motive of charging his phone so that he may contact his daughter. Jyotika’s character has inhibitions right from the beginning and she asks her husband Kabir (Ajay Devgn) to get rid of the stranger. However, the sorcerer refuses to leave even after several hours pass and mayhem ensues when Kabir tries to force the stranger out of his house, with Janhvi pushing her father to protect the sorcerer.

Madhavan’s sorcerer reveals that he now exercises complete control over Janhvi as though she were a puppet he could regulate using drawstrings. He then commands her to munch tea leaves, slap herself and her father, all of which she carries out with utmost obedience.

However, Kabir and his wife refuse to sacrifice their daughter at the altar of necromancy and a struggle ensues to free her from the clutches of the sorcerer. The clip ends with Janhvi’s resounding laughter as a sea of hands appears on the screen, seemingly reaching for something.

Shaitaan is jointly produced by Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak under the banners of Panorama Studios, Devgn films and Jio Studios, known for movies like Drishyam, Special 26, Tanhaji and Raid.

Shaitaan is slated to hit theatres on March 8.
