Selena Gomez and David Henrie will return for a sequel to Wizards of Waverly Place, the actress-singer confirmed on Thursday, sharing a throwback picture from the set of the Disney sitcom.

While Gomez will reprise her character Alex Russo from the fantasy teen comedy series, Henrie will be returning as her on-screen brother Justin Russo.

“We’re back,” Selena captioned her Instagram story, also announcing her involvement in the sequel’s pilot episode, written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, in another of her stories.

David also shared the news with his fans. “The Russo’s are excited to become a part of your family, once again, but we’ve grown...2024, the year magic comes back,” the 34-year-old actor wrote alongside a picture of the script.

Created by Todd J. Greenwald, Wizards of Waverly Place aired on Disney Channel for four seasons from October 2007 to January 2012. The series follows the lives of three wizard siblings — Alex, Justin and Max Russo (played by Jake T. Austin) — who live in an apartment on Waverly Place in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village.

While the first and second seasons focused on the siblings navigating challenges in their everyday world, the third and fourth seasons delved into a family competition. The final season shows Alex winning the competition, and Justin assuming the position of headmaster at WizTech, a boarding school for aspiring young wizards. Max became the manager of the family's sandwich shop, successfully attracting investments from the wizard community.

The sequel will reportedly pick up from this point as the now grown-up Justin is faced with a challenge that would require him to make a crucial decision.

In addition to Gomez and Henrie, the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel will reportedly feature Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele and Mimi Gianopulos in key roles.
