A moustache-sporting Vicky Kaushal adopts the persona of a war veteran as he commands his troops, exclaims patriotic one-liners and oozes the pride and honour of a soldier in the teaser of the upcoming biopic Sam Bahadur, dropped by the makers on Friday.
Helmed by Meghna Gulzar, the biopic will narrate the remarkable life and extraordinary military career of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, who played a pivotal role in India's triumph during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
"Zindagi unki. Itihas humara #SamBahadur Teaser out now," Meghna wrote, sharing the teaser on social media.
The one-minute-25-second-long teaser begins with Vicky skillfully embodying the persona of Manekshaw as he addresses a group of soldiers on the battlefield. “Respect matters more to a soldier than his life. And a soldier can lay down his life for the honour of his uniform,” he tells them.
A montage of war visuals follows as Vicky’s Maneskshaw is seen advising the then prime minister to attend to politics while he can fight a war.
“There will be no more withdrawals. Sam is here,” Vicky roars towards the end of the teaser, which promises an action-packed drama.
Sanya Malhotra takes on the role of Manekshaw’s wife Silloo Manekshaw, while Fatima Sana Shaikh steps into the shoes of Indira Gandhi, India's Prime Minister during the 1971 war.
Sam Bahadur is produced by Ronnie Screwvala and slated for a theatrical release on December 1, 2023. The biopic will clash at the box office with Sandeep Vanga Reddy’s Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role.
