A moment from Lojja

The new series Lojja, starring Priyanka Sarkar, streams from March 22 on Hoichoi. Directed by Aditi Roy and written by Samragnee Bandopadhyay, the story follows a simple reserved 35-year-old married woman Jaya who has negotiated a life of neglect and verbal abuse from her husband, Partha, a successful bank professional who is a good employee, a good father but a verbally toxic husband. Jaya represents all the women who have never protested against verbal and emotional abuse because they were not trained to identify and articulate it. This story not only highlights the challenges faced by a woman silenced by societal expectations and the empowering struggle to reclaim her worth but also surfaces some bigger questions to the society: Are all wounds visible? Are all abuses physical? Can’t one create a wound with ‘words’? Who should be ashamed, the victim or the abuser? Lojja is a story of a woman’s journey through endurance, negotiation and protest against verbal abuse.

“Creating a series shedding light on verbal abuse against women within households, I cannot overstate the importance of showcasing such narratives. Verbal abuse is a pervasive issue that often goes unrecognised or dismissed, yet its impact can be profoundly damaging, both psychologically and emotionally. By bringing these stories to the forefront, we not only raise awareness about the prevalence of this form of abuse but also encourage conversations and actions toward prevention and intervention. Lojja getting featured on Hoichoi is a source of immense satisfaction and gratitude. Hoichoi provides a platform that amplifies voices and stories that are often marginalised or overlooked. It allows for these narratives to reach a wider audience, sparking meaningful discussions and hopefully inspiring positive change,” said director Aditi Roy.
