Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You has topped Billboard’s Hot 100 for the second consecutive week and broken Spotify’s all-time record of most streams in a single day on Christmas eve, the US singer-songwriter announced on Wednesday.
All I Want for Christmas Is You, the lead single from Carey’s fourth studio album Merry Christmas (1994), went on to become a Christmas standard. It has put the 54-year-old singer on top of Billboard Hot 100 for a record 93th week, counting the latest weeks. On Spotify, the song has been played for over 17.7 million times, shattering the music streamer’s all-time record of most streams in a day.
Carey shared the news with her fans alongside pictures from her Christmas celebrations. “Wow!! Woke up this morning to the incredible news of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” breaking the Spotify record and being #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 & the Global 200 charts🤯🎁🥳🤩,” she wrote on X.
Expressing her gratitude towards her fans for making her Christmas even more joyful, the Fantasy singer wrote, “And to top it all off - it’s snowy outside!!! ❄️☃️❄️ I can’t thank you enough for making this Christmas (and honestly, this entire season!) so celebratory for me.”
In the pictures, Carey looks stunning in a strapless red slit gown coupled with a matching long shrug. The singer also posed with one of her twin daughters and their pet dog in one of the photos.
