The final trailer of Maidaan, dropped by the makers on Ajay Devgn’s 55th birthday on Tuesday, shows the Bollywood star in his most defiant avatar as football coach Syed Abdul Rahim who fights adversity both on and off the field during the 1950 Asian games.
The two-minute-six-second-long trailer elaborates on the events that unfolded in the first trailer, which was dropped on March 7. It begins with Jawan actress Priyamani, playing the role of Rahim’s wife, motivating the latter to achieve his near-impossible goal of gathering players from all over India and creating a world-class team ready to compete in the Asian Games.
Soon, Gajraj Rao’s bureaucrat enters the scene, ridiculing Rahim for scouring the country for new footballers. However, building a team to compete on an international level isn’t the only challenge for Rahim. Right before his team is about to enter the stadium, the audience breaks into a mob protest, demanding India to “go back”. This act of demotivation makes Rahim and his team members realise the importance of unity.
“Dil EK, Samaj EK, Soch EK! Witness the untold true story of S.A. Rahim and his #TeamIndia, aajao #Maidaan mein, in Cinemas 10th April,” Zee Studios wrote on Instagram alongside the trailer of the movie helmed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma.
Known as “the architect of modern Indian football”, Rahim guided the Indian national football team to unprecedented success during the 1950s. He led the team to several triumphs, including gold medals in the Asian Games of 1951 and 1962.
Produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta and Akash Chawla, Maidaan has been written by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah. With music scored by A.R. Rahman and lyrics by Manoj Muntashir Shukla, the film will release worldwide on April 10.
