From peppy dance numbers featuring Bollywood A-listers to catchy background scores that were later developed into solo tracks, the Indian film industry offered a series of earworms in the year 2023. Here are five such tracks we couldn’t get enough of this year.

Jhoome Jo Pathaan from Pathaan

Sung by Arijit Singh, Sukriti Kakar and Vishal and Sheykhar, Jhoome Jo Pathaan from Shah Rukh Khan’s first blockbuster of the year, Pathaan, sets the perfect party mood. It opens with a Spanish guitar riff which builds up the momentum for the latter parts of the song, making it a perfect earworm.

If you cannot get enough of the sizzling chemistry between Shah Rukh and Deepika as they romance each other on a beach, then Jhoome Jo Pathaan must be your go-to song for this year. On top of that, Shah Rukh strikes his iconic arms-stretched-out pose frequently in the music video, which makes it a treat for the fans.

Chaleya from Jawan

While Jhoome Jo Pathaan is all about steamy romance, Chaleya from Shah Rukh’s second hit of the year, Jawan, makes your heart skip a beat as the Bollywood star grooves to a catchy tune with Nayanthara in a dreamy atmosphere. With Arijit Singh’s soulful vocals and the moonlit setting, Shah Rukh showcases his romantic avatar, reminiscent of his 1990s movies.

Penned by Kumaar, the lyrics, which celebrates love, are perfect for a long drive with your partner. The choreography by Farah Khan brings Bollywood freestyle steps back on the big screen. Composed by Anirudh Ravichander, the song was one of the popular love anthems of the year.

Abrar’s Entry — Jamal Kudu from Animal

Bobby Deol’s entry theme, a remastered version of the Iranian song Jamal Kudu, in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s blockbuster Animal, emerged as an addictive song for most netizens soon after the film’s release on December 1. Its catchy chorus sung by a bunch of ladies at a wedding is the beating heart of the song. Bobby’s entry as he balances his drink on his head while grooving along to the beats adds to the fun.

This viral entry track was originally composed by Iran's Khatareh Group. The old version of the song has taken social media by storm along with the new one, which was released as a solo track owing to its popularity in India.

What Jhumka from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

Composed by Pritam and penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya, What Jhumka from Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is a homage to Asha Bhosle’s iconic song Jhumka Gira Re from the film Mera Saaya (1966). As Ranveer Singh’s flamboyant Punjabi guy Rocky tries to impress Alia Bhatt’s Bengali journalist Rani, the duo end up setting the dance floor on fire with their energetic moves.

Composed by Pritam, the song is a modern take on the Madan Mohan classic with eye-catching outfits and background dancers. The song tells the story of a boy and a girl who flirt with each other and bicker over a lost earring. Created as a peppy dance track, What Jhumka is the kind of a song that you cannot resist grooving to.

Show Me The Thumka from Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar

Ranbir Kapoor impressed us with his thumkas alongside Shraddha Kapoor in the foot-tapping number Show Me The Thumka from the Luv Ranjan romcom Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar. In the music video, Ranbir looks dapper in a blue mirror-embroidered kurta, while Shraddha sports a yellow sari.

While Arijit Singh & Nikhita Gandhi’s catchy song Tere Pyaar Mein from the film shows Mikki (Ranbir) and Tinni (Shraddha) falling in love, Show Me The Thumka is a peppy wedding dance song that offers respite from the despair of their onscreen breakup. Composed by Pritam and sung by Sunidhi Chauhan & Shashwat Singh, the song is penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
