Rajinikanth wears his signature swagger while slashing, shooting and pounding bad guys into pulp in the high-octane trailer of his upcoming Tamil-language action thriller film Jailer, set for an August 10 theatrical release.

In the two-minute-15-second trailer dropped by SUN TV, we see Rajinikanth as a caring grandfather who polishes the shoes of his son and grandson. Named Muthuvel Pandian, the character seems like a gentle peace-loving family man, but a doctor informs the family that Muthuvel suffers from a disease where he is like a kitten one moment and a tiger the next.

The clip also introduces us to Vinayakan’s Malayalam-speaking psychopath gangster who vows to kill Rajinikanth’s family. However, he is cautioned by a character played by Jackie Shroff, who addresses Muthuvel as ‘Tiger’. After this, we see Muthuvel’s alter-ego Tiger brutally slashing his enemies with swords and machetes, and effortlessly switching from automatic revolvers to machine guns.

After Rajinikanth kills a person at home and the body falls on the lap of his wife and daughter, Ramya Krishnan, who plays his wife, asks: “Why don’t we stop everything after this point?” Rajinikanth replies with a sinister smile: “I went too far. I can only return when I’m done with everything.”
