IMAX Corporation and Miraj Entertainment Limited have joined forces to introduce three state-of-the-art IMAX with laser systems to India in Mumbai, Jaipur and another yet-to-be-disclosed location.

The announcement was made public during the CinemaCon 2024 exhibition conference in Las Vegas.

The Mumbai system will find its home in the renowned former IMAX Wadala, which ceased operations in 2023 after nearly two decades of service as India’s inaugural IMAX location. Additionally, the installation in Jaipur marks the introduction of the first-ever IMAX system in the historic and globally renowned tourist destination.

IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, citing India’s growing demand for premium cinematic experiences. “We look forward to building on our remarkable momentum in India with our new partner Miraj Cinemas as they expand The IMAX Experience in key locations and iconic venues across the country,” he said.

Miraj Entertainment Limited managing director Amit Sharma echoed Gelfond's sentiments, saying, “At Miraj, we know our audiences want larger-than-life movie experiences, and we look forward to partnering with IMAX to bring The IMAX Experience to new locations in the country, including non-metro cities.”

The partnership comes amid IMAX's sustained success in India, which stands as one of the company’s top ten highest-grossing markets globally. 2023 witnessed IMAX’s most financially successful year in India to date. Moreover, Indian language films achieved remarkable success within IMAX theaters, generating over USD 15.7 million in global revenue.

Among the top-grossing IMAX films in India are Hollywood blockbusters like Oppenheimer and Avatar: The Way of Water, alongside recent Indian releases such as K.G.F: Chapter 2, Jawan and Pathaan.
