The biopic on retired shooter Abhinav Bindra hasn’t been shelved but it’s taking a test on connoisseurs’ patience. The film was announced two years ago with actor Harshvardhan Kapoor in the lead but the delay in going to the floors led to speculation that the movie has been shelved.

But Anil Kapoor clarified on social media that the film would be made. Bindra’s biopic is not the only mega-budget film that’s waiting for the clapboard beat but there are several such projects that are biding time in the pipeline or have been shelved. The Telegraph takes a look:

Battle of Saragarhi

Based on the historical battle of Saragarhi, three best-seller producers — Ajay Devgn, Karan Johar and Rajkumar Santoshi — were supposed to make the film separately. Devgn dropped the idea after Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar announced Kesari. The March 2019 film was to be initially co-produced by Salman Khan. Santoshi had announced the film before the duo could, but his film is still incomplete. Actor Randeep Hooda, who was supposed to be in the lead, underwent a massive physical transformation for the film and waited nearly one-and-a-half years for it to complete. The film finally has been shelved.

Chanda Mama Door Ke

This Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan-directed film was slated to release on January 2018. But we are in the third quarter of 2019, and the film is yet to go on the floors. Already signed up are Sushant Singh Rajput and R. Madhavan, this sci-fi film deals with an astronaut’s journey that culminates in India’s spacecraft landing on the Moon. The film has been shelved and Chauhan is no longer associated with the project.

Gustakhiyaan

To be directed by Jasmeet Reen and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is a biopic on Sahir Ludhianvi and his relationship with poetess Amrita Pritam. There have been numerous speculation on the casting of the film, which included Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Irrfan Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, but the project is yet to take off.

Crack

This Neeraj Pandey-Akshay Kumar film was supposed to release on I-Day 2017, but unfortunately it is yet to take off. Akshay instead took the date to release his Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Now, we hear that the maker has not been able to crack the subject for the film and that it may not happen at all.

Aankhein

To be directed by Anees Bazmee, this sequel of the 2002 hit had a lavish mahurat with Amitabh Bachchan and Arshad Warsi performing live to the title track of the film. It was slated to release on Diwali 2017, but it is still to go on floors. The 2002 Aankhen was directed by Vipul Shah and starred Bachchan along with Sushmita Sen, Paresh Rawal, Arjun Rampal and Akshay Kumar.

Shuddhi

This film was announced a couple of years ago with Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor, then there were murmurs of Salman Khan doing the film. Filmmaker Karan Johar didn’t give up on the project and announced that Shuddhi has not been shelved. He had in mind Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt to be part of the project, but he is still to do something concrete about it. We wonder if KJo would ever do Shuddhi.

Paani

The film was announced more than a decade ago first with Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta. Shekhar Kapur finally decided to make it with Sushant Singh Rajput with Yash Raj Films as the producer. Kapur worked on the project for a long time unfortunately he too failed to show the film the light of the day.
