Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu’s characters come closer amid adversity as they try to cross a desert in the music video of O Maahi, the third track from Rajkumar Hirani’s upcoming comedy-drama Dunki.

Dropped by T-Series on Monday, the four-minute-15-second-long music video begins with the view of a desert, showing Shah Rukh and Taapsee in a jeep with a load of other migrants who want to cross the desert. We see the couple travel across the desert and experience moments of agony and ecstasy. The highlight of the video comes when they run for their lives — Shah Rukh’s Hardy holding tight the hand of Taapsee’s Manu — as border guards open fire on them.

Described by the makers as “a song of unconditional, long-lasting, selfless love”, O Maahi is sung by Arijit Singh and composed by Pritam. It is penned by Irshad Kamil, who is known for his songs in Aashiqui 2 (2013), Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017), Kabir Singh (2019) and Highway (2014).

Sharing the music video on Instagram on Monday, Shah Rukh wrote about how people take time to realise the power of love. “Sometimes we don’t get the chance. Sometimes we don’t find the words. This song is dedicated to all the lovers who feel like this.”

On Sunday, Shah Rukh had taken to Instagram to tease the song and explain the meaning of ‘dunki’. “Because everybody asks, what does Dunki mean? Dunki means being apart from your loved ones. And when you are with them, one feels the moment should last till the end of time,” the Jawan star had written.

Marking the first collaboration between Hirani and Shah Rukh, Dunki also stars Boman Irani, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover. It is slated to hit theatres on December 21.
