Bipasha Basu’s nine-month-old baby girl Devi was born with two holes in her heart and had to undergo open heart surgery three months after she was born, the actress revealed during an Instagram live session with Neha Dhupia on Sunday.

Bollywood couple Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover welcomed their baby girl in November last year. On the third day after Devi’s birth, doctors informed Bipasha about her heart condition and also warned that they might need surgical intervention in three months.

“You feel so sad, burdened, and conflicted because how can you put such a small child in an open heart surgery,” Bipasha said as she fought back tears in the live session organised by Neha’s Freedom To Feed initiative on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week.

Bipasha said Karan and she manifested their thoughts that it would happen on its own. “The first time we did the scan, it didn’t happen. The next month it didn’t. When we went for the third month, I pretty much had done the research, spoken to surgeons, doctors and been to hospitals,” she broke down while narrating their ordeal.

The actress, however, shared that Devi is now healed. “I knew she had to be okay. I knew she would be okay. And today, she is okay. It was about getting the operation done at the right time, right place.”

Bipasha recalled how difficult it was to take Devi to the hospital with 10 doctors explaining to them what could happen. “But if you love your child, you must do it however difficult (it can be). It’s for the future of your child. Devi had a very successful operation, and I never had a doubt about it. But the six hours that she was in the OT, my life felt like it stopped,” she added with tears in her eyes.

The Jism actress also said Karan was a mess during the process. The emotional mother shared that she spoke to her baby, telling her everything and she made a noise, giving her a signal that she would be fine. “Karan was a mess, and I had to even throw him out of the ICU sometimes. When I saw her in the ICU for the first time with all the monitors and a dressing bandage in the middle of her chest, she was lying there as a hero. Devi is our braveheart and very powerful.”

As the live conversation went on, Devi made a surprise appearance on the set and enthralled Neha and the viewers with a smile. For the first time, Bipasha smiled and told Neha that her daughter is a social butterfly and enjoys the camera.

Bipasha shared the chat on her Instagram with the caption, “My Motherhood Journey till now❤️🧿🙏 DurgaDurga 🙏.”
