Students at Vandana Valley all-girls boarding school navigate romance, friendship and challenges on their way to adulthood under the watch of their authoritarian principal, played by Pooja Bhatt, in the official trailer of Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series Big Girls Don't Cry, dropped by the makers on Wednesday.

The two-minute-seventeen-second-long trailer begins with Pooja’s martinet reminding the students of the institution’s esteemed legacy. “Vandana Valley Girls School...who have changed our societies,” her stern voice reverberates throughout the assembly hall, setting the stage for a coming-of-age drama where rebellious students repeatedly pit themselves against authoritative figures attempting to restrain them.

The subsequent clip shows the entry of an outsider Kavya Yadav (Vidushi) in a school dominated by young elites, who sneer at her ordinary clothes and shyness. Kavya, however, quickly learns to assert herself, confronting the snobs whom she calls a “pack of entitled wolves basking in the wealth of their families”.

The trailer also features Dalai Tenzin Lhakyila, whose character seems to hail from a royal background. Lhakyila’s princess dwells in her own bubble of illusions, which is pricked by her friend, candidly exposing the reality of the annual prom to her.

The prom sees a group of dashing adolescent boys sweeping the girls off their feet. However, a few of them are too competitive to let such wayside attractions distract them. Afrah Sayed plays one such iconoclast with her eyes on the position of the head girl.

However, the girls have a few lessons to learn before they can ace life and master their feelings. “Sometimes friendship is more effective than punishment,” observes their principal as the atmosphere quickly escalates with a group of friends facing expulsion, a development that triggers misunderstandings amongst them.

The trailer concludes with the girls joining hands as they acknowledge the true value of sisterhood and companionship.

The trailer also features Avantika Vandanapu, Zoya Hussain, Lovleen Misra, Mukul Chadda and Raima Sen in key roles.

Ashi Dua Sara and Karan Kapadia serve as the producers, while Nitya Mehra, Karan Kapadia, Kopal Naithani and Sudhanshu Saria serve as the directors of the upcoming series.

Big Girls Don't Cry is slated to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 14.
