Apple TV+ has announced a new original Peanuts feature film that will follow American cartoonist Charles M. Schulz’s beloved character Charlie Brown and his spotted white beagle, Snoopy, as they head to Big City in the course of an epic adventure.

Sharing the news on X (formerly Twitter), Apple TV+ wrote on Tuesday, “Snoopy and Charlie Brown's next epic adventure? The Big City,” adding, “A new Peanuts feature film from WildBrain and Peanuts Worldwide is coming to Apple TV+.”

The new animated film is created by WildBrain Studios and Peanuts Worldwide. Its screenplay is written by Karey Kirkpatrick, writer of fan-favourite animation features such as Chicken Run (2000), Smallfoot (2018) and Over the Hedge (2006). It has been adapted from an original story by co-writers Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano — the team that wrote the award-winning The Peanuts Movie (2015).

Helmed by Ice Age: Continental Drift director Steve Martino, who also directed the 2015 Peanuts movie, the film’s production will begin in 2024. It is produced by two-time Academy Award nominee Bonnie Arnold, who has also produced the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, Toy Story film series and Over the Hedge.

“We can’t wait for everyone to experience this heartwarming new adventure with Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the gang in the Big City,” said Tara Sorensen, Apple’s head of children’s programming in a statement. “Fans of all ages have been enamoured with Peanuts on Apple TV+,” she added.

“Peanuts fans have been clamouring for another feature for years, and this film will bring joy to our millions of fans around the world,” said writer Craig Schulz, whose original story will be adapted into the upcoming Peanuts film.

The Peanuts comics, created by Charles M. Schulz, ran from October 2, 1950 to February 13, 2000. The comic strip, which featured a diverse cast of characters, is known for its humour, wit, and the timeless themes of childhood, friendship and the ups and downs of life.
