Actress Anushka Sharma and cricketer Virat Kohli welcomed a baby boy on February 15, the couple announced in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
The couple have named the newborn Akaay, their second child after daughter Vamika who was born in January 2021.
“With abundant happiness and our hearts all of love, we are pleased to inform everyone that on 15th February, we welcomed our baby boy Akaay & Vamika’s little brother into this world,” reads the post shared by both Anushka and Virat.
“We seek your blessings and good wishes in this beautiful time in our lives,” they wrote, requesting fans to respect their privacy during this time.
Bollywood celebrities Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy, Preity Zinta and Ranveer Singh congratulated the couple in the comment section. “How beautiful! Congratulations,” wrote Alia who is currently awaiting the release of her production venture Poacher, an Amazon Prime Video series starring Dibyendu Bhattacharya.
Though Virat and Anushka had kept the news of their pregnancy under wraps, South African cricketer AB De Villiers confirmed in early February that the couple was expecting a baby. However, De Villiers retracted his statement a few days later.
Virat and Anushka tied the knot in 2017 after dating each other for several years. Anushka was last seen in the 2018 film Zero and will next appear in cricketer Jhulan Goswami’s biopic Chakda Xpress, written by Abhishek Banerjee and directed by Prosit Roy.
