Amar Singh Chamkila stars Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh have dropped fresh behind-the-scenes pictures from the sets of the upcoming Imtiaz Ali directorial ahead of its April 12 premiere on Netflix. Here’s a look.
Diljit, who takes on the role of the eponymous rockstar in the film, shared pictures dressed as his character. The 40-year-old singer-actor paired a black-and-golden chequered kurta with ivory trousers.
Another picture shows the Hass Hass singer sporting a white kurta. The trailer, dropped by the makers on March 28, provides glimpses of Diljit embodying the persona of the popular singer, often hailed as the ‘Elvis Presley of Punjab’.
In the trailer, Diljit brings to life the captivating story of Chamkila's rise to fame and his eventual demise at a young age.
Diljit shared pictures of the legendary singer performing with his wife and singing partner Amarjot. In the upcoming biopic, the role is played by Parineeti.
The storyline of the upcoming Imtiaz Ali directorial illustrates how a young Amar Singh transitioned from a worker at a sock-manufacturing company to a popular folk singer in Punjab. However, the alleged vulgar lyrics of his songs led to violent protests, which ultimately resulted in his untimely death.
Parineeti and Diljit later posed with the director of the biographical drama.
The 35-year-old actress dropped a candid shot with her co-star Diljit. While Parineeti sported a red-and-blue salwar suit, Diljit was dressed in a beige kurta.
Sharing a picture with Imtiaz Ali, Parineeti expressed her admiration and gratitude for the director’s guidance, vision and passion. “Sir, your direction was unparalleled; you truly led the ship with finesse. Your vision and passion set a new standard,” read the actress’ caption.
Clad in a red suit, Parineeti posed on a scooter. “Shooting this film has topped any other film experience because I got to sing and act - 2 things I’m the most passionate about, so thank you,” the actress signed off.
A.R. Rahman has composed the music for Amar Singh Chamkila, slated to premiere on Netflix on April 12.
