Set roughly 100 years prior to the Skywalker Saga in the High Republic era, the trailer of Disney+'s upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte shows Lee Jung-jae's Jedi Master locking horns with Amandla Stenberg’s Mae, a dangerous warrior from his past, as he embarks on an investigation into a series of shocking crimes.

Dropped by the streamer on Tuesday, the one-minute-45-second-long video begins with Lee’s Jedi Master cautioning a group of younglings against trusting their senses. “Close your eyes. Your eyes can deceive you,” he instructs his students. The camera then pans to Stenberg’s cloaked assassin who attempts to kill a fellow Jedi, played by Carrie-Anne Moss, prompting a galactic pursuit with a group of Jedi striving to apprehend the killer before she eliminates them individually.

“This isn’t about good or bad...This is about power,” a voiceover highlights as the tension culminates in a dramatic battle sequence where the Jedi brandish their diverse lightsabers against the assassin's menacing red blade.

The cast of the new series also includes Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman and Joonas Suotamo.

The Acolyte trailer is a reminder that for true balance to exist sometimes darkness has to power through. The series also stalls the forward momentum of the Star Wars narratives for the first time in four years.

Creator Leslye Headland will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the new series. The two-episode live-action series will premiere on Disney+ on June 4.
