Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna were among the celebrities who reacted to the trailer of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming Netflix period-drama series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar on social media following its release on Tuesday.

Vicky, who will be next seen in Bhansali’s upcoming film Love and War alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, heaped praise on the filmmaker for his “top-notch” worldbuilding and drama. “How stunning is this! The worldbuilding, the drama…Top-notch,” the Sam Bahadur actor wrote.

Rashmika, on the other hand, lauded the trailer for its portrayal of the women of Heeramandi, who came together to create an enchanting world. “A big big shout out to this team. Damn! I love it when such beautiful women come together to create something so…Magical,” the Animal actress said. She also praised the creators of the series.

Marking Bhansali’s OTT debut, the series will follow the stories of love, passion, freedom and betrayal experienced by courtesans living in Lahore’s oldest red-light district, Heeramandi. Set against the backdrop of British-ruled India, the trailer revealed how the courtesans — played by Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal and Sanjeeda Shaikh — found themselves entangled in a constant power struggle with anti-colonial movements on the rise.

“In the glittering, regal halls of Shahi Mahal, romance and revolution clash in silence. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s sweeping saga of love, loss and liberation - Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” Bhansali Productions wrote alongside the trailer shared on Instagram.

Also starring Taha Shah Badussha, Shekhar and Adhyayan Suman, and Fardeen Khan, who is returning to the world of acting after a hiatus of 14 years, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is slated to premiere on Netflix on May 1.
