This has been a busy Friday at the box office, with just two weeks to go before Durga Puja. A slew of new movies have hit the theatres even as Brahmastra - Part One: Shiva continues its dream run. Here’s a list of new English, Hindi and Bengali films that you can catch at the plexes over the weekend.

Where the Crawdads Sing (English)

Cast: Daisy Edgar-Jones, Taylor John Smith, Harris Dickinson, David Strathairn, Michael Hyatt and others

Based on a 2018 novel of the same name by Delia Owens, this romantic mystery thriller follows the story of a girl who is born in the marshland of the south of America. She reaches adulthood and gets involved with the local heartthrob, who is later found murdered. The subsequent witch-hunt and trial are what the film is about.

Everything Everywhere All at Once (English)

Director: Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert

Cast: Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan, James Hong, Harry Shum Jr.

This film traces the life of the matriarch of a Chinese immigrant family — played by Michelle Yeoh — who gets involved in a crazy multiverse adventure. She alone can save this world, for which she must explore other universes and come to terms with the lives she could have led. Elements of dark comedy have been incorporated in this sci-fi thriller.

Jahaan Chaar Yaar (Hindi)

Director: Kamal Pandey

Cast: Swara Bhaskar, Meher Vij, Shikha Talsania, Pooja Chopra

While we wait for Farhan Akhtar to make Jee Le Zaraa, here’s a friendship tale of four girlfriends on a vacation in Goa, trying to rediscover their lives. Sounds fun, right?

Siya (Hindi)

Director: Manish Mundra

Cast: Pooja Pandey, Pankaj Rajput, Vineet Kumar Singh

Siya is the story of a small-town girl who decides to fight the oppressive bureaucratic system and patriarchal society. She faces several hurdles in her fight for justice.

Matto Ki Saikil (Hindi)

Director: M. Gani

Cast: Prakash Jha, Anita Choudhary, Dimpy Mishra, Aarohi Sharma, Manoj Sharma

A daily wager commutes daily to the city to work as a construction labourer on his bicycle to support his family of two young daughters and wife. One day his old cycle, which is his mode of transport, gets damaged in an accident. This brings about an upheaval in the man’s life.

Middle Class Love (Hindi)

Director: Ratnaa Sinha

Cast: Prit Kamani, Kavya Thapar, Manoj Pahwa, Eisha Singh

A young college student is frustrated growing up in his middle-class family. He feels love is the only way to escape the harsh realities of life. But can he give up his middle-class upbringing and overbearing parents?

Aajker Shortchut (Bengali)

Director: Subir Mondal

Cast: Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Gaurav Chakraborty, Apu Biswas, Chandan Sen

The film brings to life a story by singer Nachiketa Chakraborty. It deals with one of the burning issues of our times — unemployment. The story revolves around two central characters who witness a man dying by suicide. How the incident shakes them up and affects their life is the subject of the film.
