Kids encouraged to dream big
Students from 10 government schools designed projects in their coding and tinkering lab and exhibited them last Thursday.
The labs were set up by an NGO, with help from a tech firm, in 10 government schools in the Garia-Sonarpur area last June.
The students from Classes VI to IX worked in groups to make the models, after attending one special class every week for a year.
The classes were conducted by engineers.
“It is a pilot project where we selected 10 government schools. Students need a push and our work is to give them that push,” said Jhumpa Ghosh, director, Change Initiatives, an organisation that works in ICT (information and communication technologies).
Change Initiatives has partnered with tech company Capgemini to set up these labs in schools and provide training to children.
On Thursday, the first annual school meet of Let’s Code (Capgemini Coding & Tinkering Lab) was conducted at Nazrul Tirtha in New Town where students displayed their projects.
Kumar Anurag Pratap, the head of corporate social responsibility at Capgemini India, delivered the keynote address.
