The results of the ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) improvement exams were announced on Saturday and the marks of many students across schools have increased.
In some cases, the marks have gone up by 10 to 33 marks.
For some, the marks have remained unchanged and for a few, there has been a dip too.
But students have nothing to lose because the higher of the two marks (improvement vs main examination) would be considered as the final marks.
The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) decided to introduce the improvement exams in 2023 to give a chance to candidates “to improve their performance in any one subject of their choice”.
Mostly, ISC students appeared for the improvement test.
In La Martiniere for Boys, of the six of the 10 students had an improvement in marks.
One of them showed an improvement of 22 marks in math.
In Pratt Memorial School, three of five ISC students’ marks improved. One of them had an improvement of 33 marks in accountancy.
St James’ School said the marks of most of its students had gone up.
In Calcutta Girls’ High School, marks of all three ISC examinees improved and in National English School the lone student who had appeared for the exam showed an increase in marks.
In National Gems Higher Secondary School all three candidates showed an increase in marks. In Delhi Public School Megacity, MP Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School some students showed an improvement.
“Students got one more chance to improve their marks and those who could they did,” said John Stephen, acting principal, La Martiniere for Boys.
The increase in marks is also a confidence booster for students, said a principal.
“There was a student who could not write his paper in the first exam. He got an opportunity to appear for the second one” said Keya Sinha, principal, National Gems Higher Secondary School.
