The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, on Wednesday declared the results for the Plus Two science and commerce stream.
While the pass percentage in the science stream is 84.93 per cent, in the commerce stream the pass percentage is 81.12 per cent.
An 18-year-old girl from Balasore district, who secured second division in the science stream, tried to commit suicide on Wednesday afternoon after hearing her results.
Itishree went to the terrace of her three-storey building and jumped from there. Although she miraculously survived, she sustained grievous injuries and is battling for her life at the Balasore district hospital.
Contrary to this, a tribal girl from Malkangiri district caught everyone's attention for her sheer determination to excel in life. She worked as a labourer to meet her study expenses at college.
Karama Muduli, a 20-year-old girl belonging to the Bonda tribe (primitive and vulnerable tribal group), had topped Plus Two commerce examination in Malkangiri district last year. She had secured 82.66 per cent in the Plus Two and enrolled her name for the Plus Three First year at Rama Devi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar. During this summer vacation, she was found working as a labourer in her area to meet her educational expenses.
After the video of her working as a labourer went viral, the Malkangiri district administration swung into action and announced on Wednesday that they would bear her education expenses. The district welfare officer (DWO) visited her and assured her of all help.
Muduli, who hails from Padeiguda village under Khairaput block in Malkangiri district, used to get Rs 13,000 as a post-matric scholarship from the government. But her education expenses come to around Rs 24,000 including hostel expenses. “Besides educational expenses, there are other expenses too. Since her parents worked as daily labourers, they were unable to meet the expenses of their daughter. That’s the reason why she decided to work as a daily labour during this summer vacation,” said an official.
District welfare officer, Malkangiri, Prafulla Kumar Bhujabal told The Telegraph: “The educational expense of Muduli will be met from the chief minister’s relief fund. The administration on Wednesday also handed over a cheque of Rs 30,000 to Muduli. Last year, we had also given financial support from the Red Cross Fund.”
Following the pouring of help, Muduli was emotional and said: “I am struggling hard to meet my expenses in Bhubaneswar. I have found it tough to even buy notebooks. On many occasions, I preferred to write with a pencil so that I could erase it and again wrote notes on a new chapter,” she said.
