The Positive Impact Rating (PIR) is an evaluation system by students and for students to address the larger role of business schools and their positive impact that extends beyond their contribution to business and the economy.

XLRI made it to Level 5 (Pioneering Schools) in Positive Impact Rating 2021, a significant improvement from its evaluation at Level 3 the previous year. The results of the 2021 edition of the Positive Impact Rating were announced at the World Economic Forum in Lucerne-Burgenstock, Switzerland, in May 2021.

The data for the rating is collected by the student committee SIGMA-Oikos, which conducts a survey across students through email campaigns and social media. The results can be used as a tool to drive student-led sustainable development.

“We value what our students do, their voices, views and opinions. They are more than students as they actively participate in the emerging and future society making it more and more sustainable for the greater good of humanity. XLRI students have a fine vision of making the planet a better place for all and are able to engage even for global action,” said Fr Paul Fernandes, the director of XLRI.

The dean (administration and finance) of XLRI, Fr Donald D’Silva, said the Positive Impact Rating Survey offers a global platform to B-school students to put forward their institute’s contributions towards building a sustainable future. “This reflects the perception of the students of their institution’s positive impact on the larger community. We were delighted when in 2021 XLRI was awarded the highest rating of Level 5. We are dedicated to working towards continuous and collaborative improvements through mobilizing our students,” he said.

“XLRI has always believed in the values of excellence and integrity and strives to engrain these virtues in students. XLRI is committed to providing ethics and sustainability-driven curriculum to nurture responsible global leaders,” said Ashish K. Pani, dean (academics) at XLRI.

Tata Raghuram, convener, Father Arrupe Centre for Ecology and Sustainability (FACES), said: “XLRI sets commitments to create a positive impact on society. The rating inspires us to work more diligently towards attaining our vision and mission. We are excited that we can mobilise the student and faculty voices in XLRI to foster a positive change together.”
