St Xavier’s University and St Xavier’s College Kolkata are mulling over the introduction of multiple entry and exit facilities for students within both the institutes and plans to introduce it within the network of St Xavier’s colleges across the country.

“The New Education policy comes with an entry and exit facility where students get a chance to complete their degree course from multiple colleges. With the depository system, a student’s mark sheet is uploaded and it is available to any university. We are thinking of starting this between St Xavier’s College and St Xavier’s University,” said Rev Dr John Felix Raj, Vice Chancellor of St Xavier’s University, Kolkata.

“We are also planning to extend this entry and exit facility to all the 76 St Xavier’s network colleges across the country,” he added.

Dr Raj also said that St Xavier’s University has introduced the four year programme for students as announced by the West Bengal government and claimed that the student community has adopted it pretty well.

“It is going on very well. We are giving students the option of exiting after three years. Those who complete four years will get an honours degree. However, if they complete additional 12 credits, they can straightaway go for Ph.D. We have oridented the students with the terms of the programme,” said the VC.

“Till last year, our students who used to go to other universities outside for postgraduate studies, had to undergo a 10-month course to become qualified for the Postgraduate studies and PhD. So, now they can straightway go for such degrees. This smoothens the process for the students,” he said.

Talking about the expansion plans of the University, Dr Raj said that by 2030, Rs 350 crores would be invested for setting up more infrastructure for students and staff inside the campus.

“Talks are on with the government for a 10 acre land for setting up the second campus of the St Xavier’s University,” he added.

Praising the government for its initiative to draw investments in the field of education, he said that with new courses coming up, he is hopeful of an influx of students into the state, who will choose educational institutes in West Bengal over other states in the near future.

“Right now we have 3,500 students and by 2030, we hope to have about 10,000 students on campus,” said Dr Raj.

In order to help professionals willing to enroll in MBA courses, he said that St Xavier’s University will be starting an Executive MBA course for working professionals from the industry. The enrollment for this course will begin from July 2024.

In the coming days the university will also be signing MoUs not only with domestic institutes, but also with foreign institutes from Japan, United States of America, Poland, said Dr Felix Raj.
