The son of a small-time transport operator in Jharkhand has made it to Juniata College, a leading liberal arts institution in the US, with cent per cent scholarship.

Anjan Kumar, a student at DBMS Kadma High School in Jamshedpur, will receive an annual scholarship of USD 54,336 — USD 25,000 as Juniata scholarship, USD 19,336 as Juniata Grant and USD 10,000 from Next Genius Foundation, Mumbai.

Anjan, whose father Vishweshwar Yadav owns a small transport business in Gamharia, said he applied to 10 Universities in the US and received admission letters from several of them. He appeared for scholarship examination at three levels — a written test, a personal interview and a group interview.

“There are 20 colleges on the Next Genius Scholarship programme and from each college only one student gets 100% scholarship and the rest get partial scholarships,” said Anjan, who will study Computer Science and International Business in the Class of 2026 at Juniata College, Pennsylvania.

Next Genius Foundation, established in 2014, is a registered charitable trust with a vision to identify world-changers and connect them with outstanding university scholarships in the US.

Anjan credits his success to Vidya Jyoti School in Gamharia, where he studied till Class X and passed the CBSE examination with 88 per cent marks; DBMS Kadma High School and, of course, his parents.

The boy’s teachers are proud of his feat. DBMS Kadma High School principal Gurpreet Bhambra congratulated Anjan. “We wish him success. This is a proud moment for our school. Our school aims at holistic all-round development of students,” Bhambra said.
