​​The Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGN) today appointed Prof Rajat Moona as its new director. Professor Moona is further expected to take his new office within a span of next few weeks. His appointment has been validated by the new President of India.

As per the recent data, Professor Moona has been heading over IIT Bhilai as its Director for over five years, prior to which he had also served as Director General of the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). Along with his leadership roles in several institutes, Professor had also served as a faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur since 1991.

In his list of achievements, he had also played an instrumental role in defining some of the crucial applications for the nation, such as vehicle registration, smart card driving licence, electronic toll collection, e-passport, EVMs and VVPAT, among others.

He owns his history of association with the IITs as he completed his BTech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur back in the year 1985. He also completed his PhD in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore (1985-1989).

“I am excited to join IIT Gandhinagar, which has been charting new benchmarks in multiple spheres for over a decade. I am thankful to the President of India and the Ministry of Education for reposing faith in me. Together with the able team of my colleagues at IITGN, we will script a new growth journey for the Institute,” Prof Rajat Moona said.
