The Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra has decided to suspend all classes for two days this month on account of a Science and Technology Fest to be organised as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence.

In a joint circular issued by the dean (undergraduate studies) of BIT Mesra, Vibha Rani Gupta, and dean (post-graduate studies) Nisha Gupta, the students of undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD courses on both the main campus and off-campus have been informed about the suspension of classes on February 22 and February 28.

“Science and Technology Fest ‘Science community popularisation and its extension (SCOPE)’ will be conducted in online/offline mode from February 22 till February 28 on our campus. In view of the same, all classes for UG, PG and PhD students (BIT main and its off-campus) will remain suspended for two days from 3pm onwards on February 22 and February 28,” the circular states.

The event is being supported by the principal scientific adviser, Government of India, and Union culture and Vigyan Prasar ministry. All students have been advised to attend the fest in online/offline mode. The offline events will be held at CAT Hall, Seminar Hall and Library.

The Science Week Festival will include talks by experts, followed by a screening of science films, a science expo on 75 posters and a book fair on science-related books on the inaugural day.

On February 23, experts will present talks on the history of science followed by a book fair, film shows and expo. February 24 will see a talk show on ‘Milestones of modern science and technology’, screening of films, books fairs and expo.

Expert will talk about swadeshi (indigenous) inventions and innovations on February 25 and a science literary festival, science-related talks, poems, songs, dramas and documentaries will be held on February 26. There will also be an exhibition on start-ups.

The closing ceremony will be held on February 28.
