Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) conducted an online workshop on ‘Personality Development and Building Self-Confidence’ on June 4. Atish Chattopadhyay, vice-chancellor of Vijaybhoomi University, Karjat, Maharashtra and director, Jagdish Sheth School of Management, Bengaluru was the chief guest at the workshop.

The workshop was an initiative by the Department of Business, Faculty of Management Studies and Research (FMSR), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Chattopadhyay deliberated on the necessary etiquettes, confidence, communication skills, time management and discipline required for students to land in good jobs.

Delivering the presidential remarks, Tariq Mansoor, vice-chancellor, AMU emphasised the role of team work, communication and knowledge in the overall personality development.

He said, “Effective communication skills play a crucial role in honing one’s personality. Communication helps individuals to express themselves in the most convincing way. Your thoughts, feelings and knowledge should be passed on in the most desirable manner”.

In the welcome address, Salma Ahmed, dean, FMSR spoke about how just a positive attitude can be a game changer. She said, “Students should speak really well to make a mark of their own. Remember, no one would take you seriously if you do not master the art of expressing yourself clearly and in the most convincing manner.”

Jamal Ahmad Farooquie, chairman, Department of Business Administration discussed personality development as a life-long dynamic process, in which each step is influenced by the previous one.

Feza Tabassum Azmi, organizing secretary, presented an overview of the workshop. She also conducted the first session of the programme on the ‘Dominant Traits, Strengths and Weaknesses of Individuals through Self-Assessing Exercises and Images’.

In the second session conducted by Asif Ali Syed, deliberations were made on the need for providing extensive training for communication skills and personality development.

In the third session, the resource person, Saadia Rahman, senior consultant, Career Moves Manpower and Consultant, New Delhi focused on telephone, e-mail and social media etiquettes.

Roomana N Siddiqui, faculty member, Department of Psychology discussed stress management in the final session. Zareen Husain Farooq, co-organizing secretary conducted the programme.
