The Taki Boys Alumni Association, Kolkata (TBAAK), the ex-students association of Taki House Government sponsored Multipurpose school for boys, recently organised the TBAAK Jiabharali Cup at the school football ground. The tournament witnessed participation not only from the alumni of the school, but also the current students.

Spanning over two days, the participants were divided into several teams. While the current students of the school were divided into eight teams, the alumni was divided into 24 teams according to their age.

"The ex-students of the school were divided into three categories depending on their age and the tournament was conducted," said Partha Sarathi Saha, General Secretary of TBAAK.

"We conduct a lot work throughout the year for the betterment of the school. Although the football tournament was organised by the alumni association, we allowed the current students of the school to participate to get them accustomed with the functioning of the TBAAK since they too will become its part in future," he added.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests like Kunal Ghosh, Former Member of Parliament and Compton Dutta, former member of the Indian Football team who was also the Chief guest on the occasion.

Apart from them, Sachin Singh, the councilor of Ward no 36 of The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) along with Ayan Chakraborty, councillor of Ward No 28 (also President of the managing committee of Taki Boys' School) were present at the event.

"Forty matches were played in the tournament in day-light as well as under flood-lights," said Saha.

"Now-a-days, children have restricted themselves in mobile phones and indoor games. So, through this tournament, we are trying to drive them back to the fields. Mainly the students of classes 9 to 12 are participating in the tournament. The students have been divided into houses and they are participating in the tournament," said Dr Swagata Basak, the Headmistress of Taki Boys' school.

Dr Basak is overwhelmed with the response received the tournament has received from the students.

"Not only the players. Even the students who are not playing in the tournament are staying back after school and cheering for their friends in the field," she added.
