Swami Vivekananda University inaugurates Centre for Tagore Studies and Performing Arts

Aimed at fostering research and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s literature, Swami Vivekananda University inaugurated the Centre for Tagore Studies and Performing Arts on Tuesday, November 21. The initiative reflects the university’s commitment to the preservation and dissemination of the profound works of Rabindranath Tagore. The University is also focussing to encourage scholarly endeavours in the field.

The newly established centre also seeks to facilitate collaborative research in the realm of performing arts. The centre aims to contribute to the cultural tapestry by bridging the worlds of literature and the performing arts by encouraging interdisciplinary studies and creative exploration.

Inspired by the visionary ideals of Dr. Nandan Gupta, Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda University, the ceremony was graced by distinguished guests like Prof Basabi Fraser, renowned author and faculty member at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, alongside Prof. Neil Fraser, a distinguished expert in the field of economics.

Prof Subrata Kumar Dey, Vice Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda University also graced the occasion which was presided over by Prof. Deb Narayan Bandyopadhyay, the Chief Executive Director (Academics) at the Swami Vivekananda University.

The inception of this centre owes its existence to the unwavering support and guidance extended by Mr. Saurabh Adhikari, the Chief Operating Officer, Swami Vivekananda University without whom this achievement would not have been possible.

The centre has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Scottish Centre for Tagore Studies (SCOTS) and eagerly anticipates advancing and expanding this collaborative relationship into the realms of academic endeavours.

Outlining the vision of the newly established centre, the head and coordinator of the Department of English, Prof. Rituparna Chakraborty emphasizing its goal to enhance Rabindranath Tagore’s scholarly legacy and expressed a dedicated commitment to exploring Tagore’s works from fresh perspectives and contributing to the broader academic discourse. Faculty members from the Department of English at the university were also present.
