How about an opportunity to explore Kutch and spend a week with scientists? You can collect scientific data, study terrain features, learn about the changing planet, find clues from extinct dinosaurs and Harappan civilization and train with researchers studying about life on a Mars-like terrain. The Earth & Space Exploration Program 2022 (ESEP), a travel-based experience programme by Amity Centre of Excellence in Astrobiology and Cosmic Adventures, promises all this and more.
After a successful edition at Ladakh, the latest edition of the Earth & Space Exploration Program will be held in Kutch, Gujarat, in February 2022.
“The programme is inclusive. It's important for everyone to understand our goals. The students will be travelling from February 19, 2022, onwards but the schedule may change depending on the COVID situation," said Siddharth Pandey, head, Centre of Excellence in Astrobiology, Amity University, Mumbai.
Anyone aged 16 to 18 can sign up for the week-long programme. Participants will be divided into two batches. The first batch will be travelling from February 19 to 26, 2022, and the second batch from March 1 to 8, 2022. Registration closes on February 5.
The programme aims to support astrobiological research, inspire students to pursue STEAM education and focus on areas of climate change.
Students taking part in the week-long programme will check in at The Fern Residency, Bhuj. On the first day, they will visit Kachchh University to attend the orientation programme, followed by a tour of the Geology Museum.
Day II will see the students explore the Jarosite deposits at Mata no Madh, Kutch. They will also be trained to use hand-held geological tools and instruments.
The participants will visit Dhinodhar and Luna Craters on the third and fourth days.
In the final leg of the programme, the students will drive down to Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to learn from the ruins of the Harappan civilisation about the damage of climate change and frequent earthquakes. Students will be trained to gaze at the night sky at Dholavira Rann, an ideal place to look at the sky and experience the cosmos.
Once registered, students will have to choose a theme — Learning from the Past: Origins of Earth and Life, Observing the Present: Earth and Climate Change, and Preparing for the Future: Mars Exploration. The programme will be personalised accordingly.
