A captivating Science Film Festival was organised at Delhi Public School, Ranchi to promote awareness and understanding of the critical need for ecosystem restoration on November 30. The festival was organised by ‘Goethe Institut’ and was aimed at shedding light on the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and inspire students to take an active role in environmental conservation.

The event outlined the urgency of addressing environmental challenges and the role each individual can play in restoring balance of our ecosystems. Selected films, documentaries and animations were showcased at the event providing the students a holistic view of the challenges faced by our planet and the innovative solutions available.

“The Science Film Festival provided a unique platform for our students to connect with complex environmental issues in a visually compelling manner. The subsequent scientific experiments allowed them to translate theoretical knowledge into practical solutions, fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of ecosystem restoration,” said Dr Ram Singh, Principal of DPS Ranchi.

Nearly 150 students from DPS Ranchi took part in the festival and were enthralled on exploring the intricate relationship within the ecosystems, impact of human activities on biodiversity and the differences made by the restoration efforts.

The film screening was followed by hands-on experience for the students on the theme of ecosystem restoration where students were divided into groups and each group was given the task of designing and conducting a small-scale experiment that mirrored real-world restoration efforts.

The experiments not only allowed students to apply scientific principles but also encouraged critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
