The inaugural season of Shyam Sunder Shah Memorial Cup Boys under-15 T10 Cricket Tournament organised by Delhi Public School, Megacity was brought to a successful close. The Telegraph Online Edugraph, as media partner for the tournament, was present on the ground to cover the three-day event from 2 to 4 May 2023.

Eight schools from in and around the city participated in the tournament. In a knockout format, National English School, DPS Howrah, St. James School and St. Xavier’s Collegiate School faced DPS Megacity, DPS New Town, DPS Ruby Park and The Heritage School, respectively.

The latter set of schools qualified for the two semi-finals, from which DPS Megacity and The Heritage School fought their way into the final match of the tournament. In a thrilling showdown between the titans, the host school managed to secure a last-over win, after putting up a massive score of 116. The visitors put up a brave chase, with the captain Agnik Sarkar leading the charge, and completed their innings at 100 runs.

Hemant Mundra of DPS Megacity was named the Man of the Match for his stunning knock of 66 off 25 balls and was also named the Player of the Tournament. The team of DPS Ruby Park was awarded the Fair Play Award in the tournament.

Ms Indrani Sanyal, Principal of DPS Megacity, stressed the importance of sports and discipline in the life of students, as she stated, “Fortunately, the temperature (in Kolkata) is bearable now, and cricketers have to be tough and disciplined, so they play throughout the year. We have arranged this tournament as friendly matches, and we want the budding cricketers from all schools to take part in the spirit of sportsmanship so that they learn how to accept each other and be successful.”

The Sports Team of 18 teachers, headed by Arvind Kumar, played leading roles in organising this tournament, which had former national level cricketer Avik Choudhury as the inauguration chief guest and current national level cricketer Abhimanyu Easwaran as chief guest for the finals.
