Maharaja Jitendra Narayan Medical College and Hospital, Coochbehar organised its 2nd Annual fest, ALTHEON from 2nd September to 5th September, 2023.

The 4 days of extravaganza witnessed an overwhelming response from all the students and people of Coochbehar. The enthusiasm of the students was reflected through their grand performance during the flashmob on 1st September, 2023 which took place at the NCB Railway Station thus marking the inception of the grand event.

The pre fest events are the most awaited part of any fest. This year, there were both inter and intra college competitions, some of which were offline and some online to reach out to a huge number of youngsters. The intra college events included Dumb charades, Antakshari, UNO, Musical chairs, Chess, Carrom, Football, Volleyball,Quiz, Extempore and modified beer pongs. The intercollege online events included Abhivyakti (creative writing), Kinophilia (short film), Reel-o-thon (reels making), Dice n roll (ludo), Hunt for Head (BGMI), Ea Golazo (FIFA), Obscuras (photography), Souriez (selfie), Memecon (meme).

Among all these, Kinophilia is the most celebrated event which features the short films made by the participants followed by the screening of some award winning films.

Day 1

The inauguration of the fest was glorified by the presence of Dr Susanta Roy (Vice President, WBMC), Prof. Dr Nirmal Kumar Mandal (Principal, MJNMCH), Dr Tanay Mahanta to (HOD, FMT), Dr Biswapriya Sinha (Prof, Anatomy) and Dr Souradeep Ray (Prof, ENT) on 2nd Sep. The inaugural event began with the lamp lighting ceremony which was followed by some mesmerising performances by the students of the college and ended with a sweet note and some words of wisdom from the imminent figures present among us.

The evening began with the energetic performance by the band 4th Dimension, a local band from Coochbehar. They kept the audience hooked no less than any famous band.

The night concert kicked off with the melodious voice of Pata r Moruddyan. The crowd was mesmerised to hear some of the hits from this amazing Bengali band such as 'Ratri'.

Day 2

Day 2 began with the cultural events, showcasing the talents of the medicos. The audience was enchanted by the soulful voices of the singers, which ranged from the early 80s to the new age songs. They swayed to the dances, which ranged from classical to Bollywood. The shruti natok was a delight to the crowd. There was a large participation from some local dance academies, the Nitya Nritya dance academy and Yoga performances by some international winners.

The night began with the energetic Bengali folk band, Fakira. Their energy and passion for music lit the stage on fire. The crowd, in true sense, owned the night. The band captured our hearts with hit numbers like 'De De pal tule De' & 'Nizamuddin'.

The night ended with some groovy beats and hit dancing numbers by DJ Black Summer.

Day 3

Day 3 commenced with another round of cultural events comprising of some group song paying tribute to Asha ji, while some group dance paying tribute to Nari Shakti, a drama on Safe drive, Save life by Coochbehar Mission Hospital, while some paying tribute to our motherland and the soldiers.

This was followed by the most awaited performer of all, Gajendra Verma. He kept the crowd singing and grooving to his hit songs and many other Bollywood hits. His presence, dance moves and charisma was a night to remember! Listening to his songs like 'Emptiness', 'Mann mera' and 'Isme Tera ghata' live in a concert was an otherworldly experience.

The night ended with some electrifying performance by DJ Electrox. Even a non dancer could not keep oneself from dancing ones heart out!

Day 4

Day 4 was filled with some academic events, Science verse, a scientific seminar organised by Paramount Hospital. This was followed by a presentation on Tuberculosis by Dr. Shubhankar, Dept of chest medicine, MJNMCH. The students celebrated Teachers' Day with great vigour in the presence of Dr Saikat Datta (Dean of students affairs, MJNMCH & HOD, Dept of medicine) , the Principal, Dr Nirmal Kumar Mandal and other dignitaries. There were also some performances as a tribute towards the doctors. A prize distribution ceremony was arranged to felicitate the prize winners of the pre fest events. This was followed by the fashion show and a prom night by the students.

The last night was no less energetic than the first one and this was only possible because of some electrifying performance by the band TRAP (The Radical Array Project). The opening instrumental performance of the Harry Potter theme song was something beyond expected. They really trapped the audience with their energy, some great music and a very energetic voice!

The night ended at the dancefloor with some peppy numbers by DJ NAAZ!

The college and the organising batch was very proud of organising one of the biggest and most successful events of all, Altheon 2k23!!
