Know your denim type

Jeans are essential and perhaps you own several pairs of them already. But which pair is really meant for your body type?

For the short and sweet: Small girls can look very hot in jeans — no doubt. But avoid pants that are too big or flared. To make your legs look longer go for jeans with a crease or a pin-tuck running down the length of the pants. Jeans with cropped hems, yes, look better on short girls. While slim-fit is flattering, stay away from skinny-fit or super-tapered hems.

For the pear-shaped: Draw attention away from your thighs with fancy hems or colourful tops. Wear dark wash jeans for a slimmer look and avoid extra pockets on the front or sides of your jeans. Go for a trouser jean, which has a cut like traditional trousers, with a broad waistband, fitting the rear. If you love the skinny look, go for straight leg jeans.

Too much bulge? Too many curves? Go for wide leg jeans, avoid skinny fit. Never, never buy a pair one size to small as they will show your bulge more. Go for dark shades.

Lady long legs: If you are too tall wear cropped jeans and cute, flat pumps. Look for jeans with a long inseam. The hems of the jeans, it has been advised, should fall to the bottom of your heels in the back. You should go for the straight leg or bootcut jeans that displays the length of your legs but gives them body as well. A mid-rise or low-rise fit may add a curve to your figure. Avoid ankle-length. They may look like you bought a smaller size! Don’t go for super-skinny styles or very relaxed boyfriends (no pun intended). A straight or bootcut silhouette is really the most flattering to bring attention to your long legs.

For the schoolboy-shape: Be happy: You have the perfect shape to wear jeans with flap pockets. You would look great in jeans with curved waistbands and details such as rips and intricate seams. You’re also lucky enough to dress in straight-legged or skinny jeans. Back pockets that are placed higher also give a lift to the bottom. Do not go for wide hems.
