Online tribute on Satyajit Ray’s centenary

A fan is going online with his plans to celebrate the onset of Satyajit Ray’s birth centenary year on Saturday.

“We had planned a grand event called Iskule Bioscope to take Bengali films to schools. We are now reaching out online to teachers of 100 schools, sending them YouTube links of six Ray films and questions for students to answer,” said Kaushik Chakraborty, a brand communication professional.

A film, titled Maharaja Satabarshe Tomare Selam, will be launched on the event’s Facebook page at 3pm. It is a crowdsourced collage of people’s recollections of Ray and interpretations of his works.

“We had planned exhibitions, book launches and a memorial lecture but everything is on hold,” Ray’s son, Sandip Ray, said.
