Vikram Kirloskar, face of Toyota in India, passes away at 64

Scion of Kirloskar Group suffered massive heart attack

Toyota Kirloskar Motor vice-chairman Vikram Kirloskar passed away on Tuesday. He was 64.

He was rushed to Manipal Hospitals on the airport road in Bangalore on Tuesday morning after he suffered a heart attack.

“We are extremely saddened to inform you of the untimely demise of Vikram S. Kirloskar on November 29. At this time of grief, we request everyone to pray that his soul rests in peace,” Toyota said in a statement.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends,” the company said.

Kirloskar leaves behind wife Geetanjali and daughter Manasi.

He was a fourth-generation member of the Kirloskar group, which started in 1888. The group manufactures pumps, engines and compressors, among others.

Kirloskar, a graduate of MIT, had been vice-chairman at Toyota Kirloskar, headquartered in Bangalore, since 1998.

He was responsible for the joint venture partnership with the Toyota group and for starting a major automobile manufacturing industry in the state.

He was president of the CII during 2019-20 and was currently the chairman of the CII Manufacturing Council.
