Domestic auto major Tata Motors on Tuesday rolled out the electric variant of its compact SUV Nexon for the personal segment at a starting price of Rs 13.99 lakh and said it plans to launch four more EVs in the next two years.
Of the four proposed electric vehicles (EVs), two will be sports utility vehicles, one sedan and a hatchback, Tata Group chairman N. Chandrasekaran announced at the launch event, which was attended by Ratan Tata, the group’s chairman emeritus.
With Nexon EV a reality, the whole ecosystem for an electric vehicle is in place now, and its adoption will be much faster going forward, he said.
Powered by in-house developed Ziptron technology, Nexon EV comes with a range of 312 km on a single charge and a high voltage system, fast charging capability, extended battery life and class leading safety features.
E-scooter offer
Calcutta: Ather Energy, a start-up in the electric scooter segment, is offering a new ownership model for its Ather 450X scooter, with a reduced upfront payment and a separate monthly subscription payment for the battery pack.
The Ather 450X, a sequel to the Ather 450, has a tested range of 116 km in a single charge. Powered by a 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, it can do 0-40 kmph in 3.3 seconds. The company is offering an upfront payment for the scooter at Rs 99,000 and a separate monthly subscription for the battery pack at Rs 1,699, which covers life-long warranty on battery with free battery change and free access to public charging infrastructure.
“With Ather 450X, we wanted to build a vehicle that breaks the mould of what an EV can do in India,” Tarun Mehta, CEO and co-founder of Ather Energy, told The Telegraph. “We have changed the ownership model and reduced the upfront payout for the scooter while also reducing the battery replacement cost to virtually nothing,” said Mehta.
