Global hospitality major Mariott International has expanded its room count in Bengal to 895 with the introduction of the Fairfield by Mariott in the city and is keen to bring in more brands in the state.

“We operate in two forms — we have managed hotels and franchise hotels. In managed hotels we currently operate four hotels in Bengal — JW Mariott, Westin, Courtyard in Siliguri and we have recently opened the Fairfield hotel in New Town. Taken together these would have around 895 keys,” said Gaurav Singh, general manager of JW Mariott Calcutta and cluster general manager, Bangladesh.

“We also have a relationship with brands such as ITC Royal Bengal and ITC Sonar,” said Singh on the occasion of the announcement of the 182-key Fairfield hotel on Friday.

He added that the hospitality major is exploring the option of bringing in new brands in the state but there is no set timeline.

“In the longer horizon we have a lot of construction that is happening at multiple locations. In Bengal, at least two-three agreements are in the pipeline. We see potential in different tiers of operations. We are open to all brands coming to India,” said Singh.

Despite the high room inventory, Singh said there are stable occupancy rates for all of the brands in Bengal and demand is being driven by the ability of the state to host large conventions and exhibitions besides banquet demand.
