Premium car manufacturers have started production at their factories in a graded manner.

While Mercedes Benz India commenced production at Chakan on May 6, BMW Group started operations at its Chennai plant on May 7.

Both the players will ramp up production in the coming days as the situation evolves and will follow local government regulations. Dealerships have also started operating according to the protocol issued by each of the companies maintaining social distancing and hygiene.

Tata Motors owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will resume production at its Solihul plant in the UK as well as in Slovakia and Austria from May 18. Audi has also started production at its engine plant at Gyoer, in Hungary.

BMW India also launched two cars on May 8 — the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and the M8 Coupe.

Arlindo Teixeira, acting president, BMW Group India said, “The first-ever BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is an avantgarde choice. On the other hand, with the first-ever BMW M8 Coupe, we are addressing our high performance-oriented customers. These are two top-of-the-line offerings in the uber-luxury segment.”

A multitude of bespoke personalization options are presented including the most luxurious choice of special paint finishes, hand-crafted leather, interior trims and other equipment details of the highest quality that are available in a diverse range. The cars are available as completely-built-up units in BS VI petrol variants. The ex-showroom prices are Rs 1.29 crore for the BMW 840i Gran Coupe, Rs 1.55 core for the BMW 840i Gran Coupe M Sport Edition and Rs 2.15 crore for the BMW M8 Coupe.

Customers of the first-ever BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and the first-ever BMW M8 Coupe will gain membership to the BMW Excellence Club which curates unmatched experiences and benefits from the world of luxury, travel, lifestyle and sports and adventure. The program features four main categories: Bespoke Travel, The High Life, Grandstand and BMW Privileges.

These cars can be booked from the comfort of home through the BMW Contacless Experiece, where customers can customise and book their cars.
