Automobile sales leap in November to break March 2020 record, 28.54 lakh units sold

Two-wheelers sales were at an all-time high of 22.47 lakh units, exceeding the March 2020 figure of 20.7 lakh units

Auto retailers clocked the highest sales of 28.54 lakh units in November, surpassing the previous high of March 2020 when 25.69 lakh vehicles were sold, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Association (FADA).

Two-wheelers sales were at an all-time high of 22.47 lakh units, exceeding the March 2020 figure of 20.7 lakh units.

Passenger vehicle sales were at 3.6 lakh, surpassing the previous highest sales of 3.57 lakh units.

Tractors and commercial vehicle sales were down 21 per cent and 2 per cent, respectively. Two-wheelers, three-wheelers and PVs grew 21 per cent, 23 per cent, and 17 per cent, respectively, on a YoY basis.

The two-wheeler category grew 49 per cent on a month-on-month basis, while passenger vehicles grew 2 per cent. The entire industry recorded a 35 per cent growth month-on- month.

Suzuki Motor Gujarat

Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG), a wholly owned subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki, has surpassed the milestone of 3 million cumulative production.

SMG commenced operations in February 2017 and within a span of around 6 years and 11 months, has achieved the 3 million cumulative production mark.

Notably, the last one million units were manufactured in just about 17 months. The Gujarat facility has an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh units.

Vehicles manufactured here are sold in both the domestic as well as export markets.

Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, said: “The production of our battery electric vehicles will also be undertaken at the SMG and is expected to start in FY 2024-25.

“At present, the facility manufactures Swift, Baleno, Dzire and Fronx.

“Fifty per cent of the total vehicles exported by Maruti Suzuki in FY2022-23 were manufactured at SMG.”
